This position is responsible for operating various types of filling and packaging equipment in accordance with process and quality standards so as to meet assigned production schedules.  The individuals in this position have a direct impact on the quality and food safety of the finished product.  Filler Operators will have oversight of a production line and several individuals working on their assigned line. 


The Fine Details

  • Operate various pieces of filling and packaging equipment including, but not limited to, fillers, baggers, case erectors, case sealers, turntables, and metal detectors.
  • Fill in for other individuals who fill boxes/pails/drums/totes, stacks boxes/pails of product onto pallets, and move materials and finished goods with a pallet jack.
  • Ensure proper materials are being used and documented with accuracy (ex: pails, cases, labels, film, drums, etc.)
  • Perform proper consumption of materials and finished goods reporting through SAP
  • Document downtime activities through computerized manufacturing systems
  • Challenge the metal detector to ensure proper operation, document challenges, ensure proper disposal of product rejected by metal detector, and react properly to failures of this Critical Control Point.
  • Properly assemble/disassemble/clean equipment and perform line clearance activities during startups, shutdowns, and changeovers. 
  • Maintain cleanliness and housekeeping standards.  Equipment and work areas must be kept organized, clean and sanitary throughout the shift.  Arrange for removal of any waste and garbage generated throughout the shift.
  • Ensure proper care of equipment and report temporary fixes, malfunctioning equipment, and safety or food safety concerns regarding your assigned production line and surrounding areas.
  • Follow all safety protocols and participate in safety training. 
  • Maintain all assigned tools and report any missing tools or those presenting a safety or food safety issue. 
  • Report any injury or accident or unsafe condition to management immediately.
  • Support, and comply with all quality management systems, continuous improvement programs, food safety, employee safety, and preventative maintenance programs.
  • Support and comply with GMP’s.
  • Follow all company policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to read, speak and write English so as to assimilate, retain, and apply training and knowledge of job functions and recognize and communicate problems and recommended solutions.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and equipment manuals.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Strong attention to detail is essential.
  • Must be able to deal with frequent changes, delays or unexpected events.
  • Ability to interface with computers and computer controls for various machines.
  • Able to work well in a team setting.
  • Demonstrates excellent attendance and punctuality.
  • Must be able to work overtime and/or weekends as required
  • Must be able to wear company provided uniform.


The BRILLiant Recipe

  • 1-2 years relevant experience preferred
  • High School diploma or equivalent


Physical demands

  • Reaching with hands and arms and the ability to use hands and fingers.
  • Ability to see, hear, and speak.
  • Frequently required to stand for up to four hours at a time.
  • Required to walk, climb stairs and ladders, and/or balance one’s body.
  • Some of these roles may require the ability to lift and carry up to 60 pounds, infrequently.


Work environment

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.  Although some of each workday will be spent in an office or conference room type setting, the individual in this role will spend a significant amount of time on the plant floor, which is where most of the hazards detailed below will be encountered.

  • The employee is frequently exposed to airborne particles and/or aromas. 
  • The noise level in the work environment is loud in the production environment.
  • The employee will be exposed to allergens and chemicals on a regular basis.
  • The employee will be exposed to wet floors, steam, hot water, and industrial equipment with large, moving components.
  • The employee will be exposed to a hot, humid environment on the production floor, especially during the summer months.  Winter months may provide for a cold environment. 
  • The employee will be exposed to refrigerated and frozen environments in storage areas, very infrequently. 
  • Required PPE includes slip-resistant footwear, hair/beard nets, hearing protection, and safety glasses.  When performing some functions, bump caps, gloves, and chemical-resistant coverings may be required.
